Mixed Reviews for Final Movie Club Outing to The Legend of Ochi

The fourth and final Chisholm Academy Movie Club outing to see The Legend of Ochi this year was definitely memorable! The positive is that 20 students, chaperoned by Mrs. Chambers, Mrs. Moss, Ms. Edmonds and Mr. Tollefsrud, enjoyed a lovely outing on April 29th to Cineplex Cinemas Winston Churchill followed by pizza and pop at nearby Boston Pizza. Some students were not impressed with some features, such as the puppetry and computer animation for the mysterious monkey-like animal known as the ochi. But the audience was spellbound by the stunningly beautiful, stark and often dark settings of fictional Carpathian Island, set and filmed in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania, including parts of Transylvania. The story centres around Yuri (played by 16-year-old German actor Helena Zengel) and her fierce determination to save and bond with a juvenile ochi separated from her mother after an attack by local hunters led by her father. Acclaimed actors Willem Dafoe, Emily Watson and Finn Wolfhard joined Zengel in weaving together an inspiring story of complex family relationships and reconciliation. Our students saluted the movie by mimicking the high-pitched ochi cries after the show. Thank you to all the Chisholm Movie Club teachers and students who joyfully participated in one of our oldest and most popular extracurricular activities once again this school year.
