Chisholm Academy Cuts for Cancer a Hair Raising Event!

Chisholm Academy has been a long-time supporter of the Canadian Cancer Society and its annual Relay for Life event each spring. For the past ten years, the school has been sending a delegation of students to the overnight event to raise money, awareness and to fight for a cure. This year, Chisholm’s Relay for Life team got started on their fundraising efforts early by hosting a Cuts for Cancer event at the school on November 17th 2016.

The event began with a barbeque lunch served by members of Chisholm Academy’s student council and the Relay for Life team. Students enjoyed their meals and then gathered on the basketball court for the main event.

Three brave teachers, Mr. Mooney, Mr. Sharland and Ms. Gilbert, volunteered to shave their heads much to the delight of the staff and students. Chants of “cut the hair” could be heard as our top fundraisers took turns shaving sections of their teachers’ heads.

Ms. Andrew, one of the staff sponsors of the Chisholm Relay for Life team, cut her hair and donated it to the Beautiful Lengths program which creates wigs for those fighting cancer. Each of these teachers will now be sporting fun new looks around the school.

Thanks to the generosity of Chisholm families, students, staff, and Dr. Bernstein, we were able to raise over $1000 in support of our Relay for Life team and the Canadian Cancer society.

Special thanks goes to the members of student council, the Relay for Life team, and all of the teachers who helped take photos, clean up and organize the event. Special thanks to Mrs. Talbot, Mr. Mooney, Mr. Sharland, Ms. Gilbert, and Ms. Andrew for their organization, support and participation in this worthwhile event.

A final thank you goes to Anna from Oakville’s Backstage Hair for providing her time and talents in cutting hair and shaving heads.

See you on the Relay Track in 2017!
