Law Trip to the John Sopinka Superior Courthouse in Hamilton

The grade 11 and 12 law students spent the day in court on Tuesday, November 20. They were present for the defence attorney’s summation in a criminal trial where the accused had pleaded guilty to a manslaughter charge. The Crown had appealed and been allowed a new trial to pursue a charge of second-degree murder. The students were exposed to a real-life demonstration of our criminal court system at work. Following the court visit students retired to the local Mandarin restaurant where they were able to eat to their heart’s content and discuss the events of the day.
